Fraudulent Morality
I see you
Hiding behind lonely desperation of quiet sufferers
of my time.
I see you
Looking wary, dark and brooding
Weighing every cent of kindness thrown your way.
I see you
Counting luck like counting nightly stars
Abundant everywhere to each one but you.
I see you
Wishing this morning would leave you alone
As you stand by the doorway hating the isolation you chose.
I see you
Smiling secretly at passers-by who throw a glance your way
Some pleasant and dull
Few guilty and hurried
Most derisive and cold.
I see you
Dreaming of blood and green
Those sweaty summer days, slapping off mosquitos trying to live off of you
Just another day
The way you thought money could save your world.
I see you
Tolerate shame, hurt from indignation
Your agonizing screams of tears in the shower
Melting away with the soapy water
Unrecognized, unforgiving
The smear of blood never leaves your skin
No matter how hard you scrub, the smell and poverty remains.
I still see you
As your silent sorrowful posture draws me in.
I saw you
Shrinking, your breath stopped for a minute with mine
Suffocated and ashen
As the clock struck an ominous two.
I forgive you
For you know no better,
Born into the hollow blackness of human worth.
